Occupation Business owner Sexuality Bi (her a drink first)
Her presence behind the till alone is enough to drive business to overnight success, because who doesn't love an interesting face? It's surely the goth-looking, tattooed, aloof woman whipping up flat whites, finding you the best trinket for that friend who really needs a pick-me-up after a bad break-up, or writing by hand - with spotless calligraphy - a notice that says children left unattended will be given coffee. It has nothing to do with the way Jane of All Trades sits on a leyline, or the rituals Ariadne puts into making the storefront as enticing as possible to every passer-by. And it's certainly not because it's run by a witch. The coffee is just that good, you guys.
Beneath the surface, Ariadne is a witch specialising in domestic witchcraft - imbuing cookies with good luck, getting the floors to be spotlessly clean, sewing protection charms into your clothes, house always cosy, tea always perfectly brewed and steaming. The magic she knows was passed down, from generation to generation, dating back to several-times-great-grandmother who was the village witch in some remote place in Eastern Europe. With a healthy dose of respect for the craft, Ariadne has been carrying on the family's talents for years now; Jane of All Trades is a front, with her real talent hiding in the ritualistic spellcraft.
For some years now, she's started adding spells as tattoos on her body. The way they work is the inked incantation make it possible for her to skip with the whole boring bit of drawing a circle and lighting some incense, and just rub her finger over the tattoo to get the magic to work. She has a grimoire that she can summon from a pocket dimension kept in a locket around her neck (read: the Choker of Holding), but the grimoire is very 'domestic witchcraft' focused, so interactions with it usually go like this:
Grimoire: What do you want?Ariadne: Give me something powerful
Grimoire: I see you are trying to be a powerful witch, have you considered a spell that makes seven perfect bagels?Ariadne: Fuck.
Needless to say, there is some level of friction and some frustrated ambitions between the inherited talents and what Ariadne would rather be doing. There's a reason the store doesn't linger in place long.
